Be A Part of the Inaugural Chicago Filipino American Theatre Festival

Submissions are now open for the inaugural Chicago Filipino American Theatre Festival, celebrating the diverse stories of the Filipino diaspora in Theatre during Filipino American History Month in October 2024.

Presented in collaboration with CIRCA Pintig, Chicago’s oldest Filipino Theatre Company and community arts organization, the debut festival year will share the season’s theme of KAPWA, or kindred, as the festival seeks to connect our Kapwang Pilipino through new theatrical writing centered around the FIlipino experience.

The festival will present new theatrical works from up-and-coming and established Filipino playwrights throughout October.

Festival Information

In honor of Filipino American History Month, October will be slated for the festival that will thematically group submissions together and present in various readings with an audience.

Selected submissions will be presented in “standing reading” format, with an ensemble of performers throughout the festival.

A colloquy will be conducted after each performance with the director, and actors to discuss the writing and importance of cultural agency in the diaspora.

A Convening of Filipinos, Filipino Americans and BIPOC artists with shared experiences in the community are invited to celebrate our voices.

A small stipend to the selected playwrights will be awarded.

Deadline for submissions will be July 31st, 2024 and selections will be notified by August 31st, 2024.

Submission Information

Playwrights that identify as Filipino, Filipino-American, and those with Filipino descent are deeply encouraged to submit.

The submission must be an original 10-15 minute play or excerpts from full-length pieces that is unpublished. Submissions that have been previously produced or published will not be accepted.

Please include English translations if additional languages are in the play (Tagalog, Bisaya, Spanish atbp.) Note this information upon submission.
